Corfu town – Pontikonisi
For those of you who wish to make a cosmopolitan cruise, the team of FunSea Corfu Boats Rental will be by your side to offer you the most fun moments! For that reason we have designed, especially for you, a tour program that follows, by sea, the most popular points of interest in the city of Corfu which reveal its multicultural character.
The historic center with its medieval fortresses and its perimeter fortifications composes a unique architectural ensemble which in the summer of 2007 was included in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Starting by the Old Port, where the New Fortress dominates, we will cross the walled city, with its tall characteristic buildings in the color of ocher and we will see the tall tower emerging from the church of Saint Spyridon.
This interesting tour will take us to the Old Fortress, an excellent example of military architecture that includes all the basic developments of the defense art from the 15th to the 19th century.
We will continue through the bay of Garitsa, where there was the ancient port of Corfu, and we will meet Mon Repos, the once summer residence of the English commissioners with the wonderful gardens ending on the rocks and the sea.
Continuing this amazing route, we will arrive in beautiful Pontikonisi, a trademark of Corfu. The green rock, in the middle of the sea, owes its name to its tiny size. Its unique building is the picturesque Monastery of the Pantokrator that dates from the 11th century.
Exactly opposite of Pontikonisi, an elevated strip of land connects the mainland with the church of Vlaheraina and is an attraction to thousands of visitors. At the same point, the Halikiopoulos lagoon, a wetland of great ecological value, complements the natural beauty of the landscape.
